The Battle of Plassey, 23 June 1757, was a decisiveBritish East India Company victory over the Nawab ofBengal and his French allies, establishing Companyrule in South Asia which expanded over much of theIndies for the next 190 years. The battle took place atPalashi, Bengal, on the river banks of the BhagirathiRiver, about 150 km north of Calcutta, nearMurshidabad, then capital of undivided Bengal. Thebelligerents were Siraj-ud-daulah, the last independentNawab of Bengal, and the British East India Company.
