The Tenth Schedule was inserted into the Constitution in 1985 by the 52nd Amendment Act.
It lays down the process by which legislators may be disqualified on grounds of defection by the Presiding Officer of a legislature based on a petition by any other member of the House.
73rd Amendment Act:
The 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act 1992 added a new Part-IX to the Constitution of India.
This part is entitled ‘The Panchayats’ and consists of provisions from Articles 243 to 243 O.
The Act gives constitutional status to the Panchayati raj institutions.
61st Amendment Act:
It reduced the voting age from 21 to 18 years.
This came into force on March 28, 1989.
86th Amendment Act:
Elementary Education was made a fundamental right – Free and compulsory education to children between 6 and 14 years.
A new Fundamental Duty under Article 51 A was added – “It shall be the duty of every citizen of India who is a parent or guardian to provide opportunities for education to his child or ward between the age of six and fourteen years”.
