How much is the loss?

II. The loss is 25% of the selling price.

if the statement 1 alone is sufficient to answer the question.
if the statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.
if both the statements I and II are sufficient to answer the question but neither statement alone is sufficient.
if both the statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question and additional data is required.

Solution:

I. Given : C.P = Rs. 300.

It gives no information about S.P or % loss.

∴ I alone is not sufficient.

II. Given : Loss = 25 % of S.P

Since S.P is not given, loss can’t be determined.

∴ II alone is not sufficient.

I & II. C.P – S.P = 25% of SP

=\frac{SP}{4}

C.P=\frac{5}{4}

S.P⇒S.P

=\frac{4}{5}\times300=\text{Rs.}240

⇒ Loss

=300-240=\text{Rs.}60.

∴ I & II together are sufficient.
