The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established under the SAARC Charter in Dhaka on 8 December 1985.

Initially, SAARC was founded by seven states in 1985. In 2005, Afghanistan became the 8th member of the association.
Eight-member of SAARC comprises Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka.
The basic framework of SAARC is to respect for the principles of sovereign equality, territorial integrity, political independence, non-interference in the internal affairs of other States and mutual benefit.
