The Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India defines and specifies the allocation of powers and functions between States and the Union.
The schedule contains three lists - Union List, State List, and Concurrent list.
The Union List originally had 97 subjects. Now, it has 100 subjects. The centre has exclusive powers to make laws on the subjects mentioned in this list.
The State List has 61 subjects now, It had 66 subjects initially. State legislatures can make laws on the subjects mentioned in this list.
The Concurrent List has 52 subjects enumerated under it. Both the State as well as the Central Government can make laws mentioned on this list.
