'New Lamps for Old was a series of articles (1893-94) that criticized the Congress for being out of touch with the 'proletariat' written by Aurobindo Ghose. He was an Indian philosopher, yogi, guru, poet, and nationalist and joined the Indian movement for independence from British rule, for a while he was one of its influential leaders and then became a spiritual reformer, introducing his visions on human progress and spiritual evolution.
