(a) Andhra Pradesh is an ancient institution of handwoven fabrics. It produces the most exclusive sarees and dress-materials, having delicate and distinctive designs. The looms of Pochampally, Venkatagiri, Gadwal, Narayanpet and Dharmavaram are well-known for their silk and cotton sarees all over India. Kalamkari is a type of hand-painted or block-printed cotton textile, produced in parts of India. The Machilipatnam Kalamkari craft made at Pedana near by Machilipatnam in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh, evolved with patronage of the Mughals and the Golconda sultanate.
