Samudra Shakti exercise is held between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy.
Recently, this exercise was conducted usinganti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta (Indian Naval Ship) along with KRI Usman Harun (Indonesia naval warship) , a multi-role corvette, in the Bay of Bengal as part of the2nd edition of Samudra Shakti.
The 1st edition of the exercise took place in 2018 in the Java Sea.
This exercise is conducted in two phases i.e Sea phase and Harbour phase.
Harbour Phase : The Harbour Phase includes activities such as cross deck visits, simulator drills, professional interactions in the form of Subject Matter Exchanges of the Expert (SMEE), sports fixtures, planning conferences, and social interactions, etc.
Sea Phase: The Sea Phase includes manoeuvres, Surface Warfare exercises, Air Defence exercises, Weapons firing drills, Helicopter Operations, and Boarding Operations.
Aim of the exercise :To strengthen bilateral relations, enhance the interoperability, expand the maritime cooperation, and also exchange the best available practices..

About Defence Exercises:
Defence exercises are performed by any of the countries to showcase their techniques of using resources in training or performing skills and drills of the respective armed forces . To show their quickness and real-time ability of warfare situation.
These exercises are the way of measuring to test the performance of endurance, strength, and adaptive ability of the soldiers without engaging them into the battlefield.

It trains soldiers and officers on how to react, think, and work together during real war type situations.
It simply indicates and visualizes the power and technology of the armed forces in front of the world.
It build-ups social affabilities and coordination among other friendly country forces in the world.
It provides an opportunity to test and know the precision of our weapons and devices.
Types of Defence Exercises:
Bilateral Exercise: This is the exercise that is conducted
between the two countries .Example - Surya Kiran exercise between India and Nepal.
Multilateral Exercise: This is the exercise that is conducted among more than one country .Example - Cobra Gold among Asia Pacific countries.
Domestic Exercise: This is the exercise that is conducted in our boundary region to improve our internal things to look after where we can bolster our forces. Example - Vijay Prahar conducted by the Indian Army.
