Har Gobind Khorana was an Indian-born American biochemist.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine in 1968.
He shared the Nobel Prize with Marshall W. Nirenberg and Robert W. Holley.
The Nobel Prize is awarded for his research that shows how the nucleotides in nucleic acids, which carry the genetic code of the cell, control the cell’s synthesis of proteins.
He also received the Albert Lasker basic medical research award in 1968.
He was honoured with the ' National Medal of Science ' of the United States in 1987.
