Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
May 10th. – Colonel James, leader of the French forces, did not capitulate.
Yesterday was the wildest, maddest and craziest dinner we have had yet. It marked the end of a long war, men were surprisingly foolish and talkative. We, the ladies, however, had an unspoken foreboding that it was to be the last pleasant meeting. Mr. Riles, the vice-premier of the Confederates, who had led the forces to victory dined with his troops and their families today. Mrs. Merry Bing rushed in saying, “The news, I come with the latest news. All the men of the Bing family are on the shore of the confederacy island,” of which fact she seemed proud. While she was beaming with pride. Our peace negotiator or envoy came in, that is, Mr. Chester returned. His interview with Colonel James had been deeply interesting, but Mr. Chester was not inclined to be communicative. He wanted his dinner. He thought himself ill-used throughout the war.

Please have mercy on Col James, even though we are on the opposite sides, please stop further bloodshed as this may lead to another round of guerrilla attacks by the defeated but enraged French forces".
