On 10 December, the day the United Nations General Assembly ratified the Universal Declaration of Human Rights(UDHR) in 1948, Human Rights Day is celebrated each year.
The UDHR is a seminal text declaring the inalienable rights to which everyone, regardless of colour, faith, sex, gender, political or other opinions, national or social background, income, birth or another status, is entitled as a human being.
The subject of this year's Human Rights Day concerns the COVID-19 pandemic and reflects on the need to rebound properly by ensuring that rehabilitation efforts are essential to human rights.
At the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on 4 December 1950, the formal establishment of Human Rights Day took place, when resolution 423(V) was declared by the General Assembly, inviting all Member States and any other concerned organisations to observe the day as they found it necessary.
