The Panchayati Raj signifies the local self government in India constitutionalised through the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992. The Act provides for a three tier system of Panchayati Raj in every state. The three tier system has Gram Panchayat at the village level. It consists of the representatives of people elected by them. Panchayat Samiti is at the intermediate level, which consists of elected members from Panchayats falling in the block area. At the top, there is Zilla Parishad, which consists of representatives from Panchayat Samiti.
