The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize is given as recognition of outstanding Indian work in the field of Science and Technology.
The award is named after the founder Director of the CSIR India- late Dr Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar.
These awards are awarded annually for notable and outstanding research, applied or fundamental, in the following disciplines:-
Biological Sciences
Chemical Sciences
Earth
Atmosphere
Ocean and Planetary Sciences
Engineering Sciences
Mathematical Sciences
Medical Sciences
Physical Sciences
Any citizen of India engaged in research in any field of science and technology up to the age of 45 years as reckoned on 31st December of the year is eligible for this award.
The Prize is bestowed on a person who has made conspicuously important and outstanding contributions to human knowledge and progress in the particular field of endeavour, which is his/her specialization.
The value of each award is Rs 5,00,000 (Rupees five lakh only).
The Governing Body of CSIR is guided by the recommendations of the Advisory Committees constituted with the approval of the Chairman of the Governing body of CSIR to give awards to the eligible nominee.
