(4) The epic Mahabharata was written by Ved Vyas. Its central theme is the great Kurukshetra battle of eighteen days fought between the Kauravas and the Pandavas. It is a collection of hundred thousand verses. The Mahabharata is divided into eighteen books(Parvans) and there is a supplement called ‘Harivamsa’.The famous ‘Bhagavad Gita’ belongs to the ‘Bhisma Parvan’and is a holy book which has widely read and admired for centuries.
