(2) Winnowing is the process ofseparating lighter components of amixture from the heavier ones. It isdone by allowing the mixture to fallfrom a height in the presence ofwind or moving air; for example,separating a mixture of grains andhusk. Sieving is the process of separatingsmaller particles from bigger onesby passing them through a sieve;for example, separation of smallsand, pebbles and stones from finesoil particles. Filtration is theprocess of separating solidingredients (generally smaller insize) from a liquid by passingthrough a filter paper having finepores. The solid is left on the paperand the liquid is collected at thebottom in a container.
