(a) Zonal Council is not a constitutional body but are statutory bodies established via the part III of the States Reorganization Act of 1956. Five Zonal Councils have been set up under this Act –the North Zone, the Central Zone,the Eastern Zone, the Western Zone and the Southern Zone. Chandigarh is a part of the Northern Zonal council. A zonal council is primarily an advisory body. It discusses matters of common interest of the constituent states.
