(b) Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is the number of deaths of infants under one year old in a given year per 1,000 live births. This rate is often used as an indicator of the level of health in a country. IMR and U5MR measure the probability of dying before one year and five years, respectively as against 1,000 live births. The eleventh plan’s target for IMR was 28/1000. But, it was not achieved at the end of the plan.
