(c) The concept of zoning was mainly based on ecological land classification recognising various components like soils, climate, topography, vegetation and crops, etc. The zones were selected as contiguous areas within the state boundary and, to the possible extent, the zones have homogeneous physical characteristics, such as topography, rainfall, soils, cropping pattern and irrigation availability. The state of U.P. is divided into nine agro-climatic zones. The areas of 13 districts fall into two agro-climatic zones and 57 districts are covered in single zones.
