If the Himalayas did not exist, then the north Indian plain wouldhave been much cooler in winters. The Himalayan range acts as abarrier protecting the Great Plains of India from the cold winds ofCentral Asia during severe winters. Further, they are the reason for the summer rains and monsoon-type climate in the regions that arebeyond the Western Ghats of India. In its absence, this region wouldhave remained drier.
