The word ‘vaccination’ has been derived from a Latin word whichrelates to a cow. The Latin word ‘vaccinae’ was formed from theadjective ‘vaccinus’ meaning ‘of or relating to cows’. This word, in turn, was based on the noun ‘vacca’, meaning ‘cow’. The cowpoxmaterial used for injections was then called vaccine. The injectionitself was called vaccination. A vaccination is a treatment whichmakes the body stronger against a particular infection.
