The basic structure doctrine with regard to the Constitution of India relates to the power of judicial review, the judgement in Keshvanand Bharati case (1973) and the constraints on Article 368 of the Constitution of India. The doctrine of the basic structure was propounded in Keshvanand case. It is popularly known as fundamental rights case. The basic features are those pillars on which our Constitution stands, such as Judicial Review, Secularism, Democracy, etc. This case declared that the Parliament under Article 368 has the amending power, but it cannot alter the basic structure.
