The first statement about the Sayyid Brothers during the period of Later Mughals is not true. The Sayyid Brothers fought on behalf of Muazzam, who became the king as Bahadur Shah. They killed ‘Jahandar Shah’ in the battle and offered the throne to Farrukhsiyar. Farrukhsiyar appointed Abdullah Khan as Wazir and Hussain Ali as Mir Bakshi. King Shahu concluded an agreement with the Sayyid Brothers (1719) by which the Mughal emperor Farrukhsiyar recognised Shahu as the king of Shivaji’s home dominions.
