Only senior most judge of the Supreme Court is appointed by the President as Chief Justice of India under Article 124 of the Indian Constitution. Other judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India. Supreme Court was established on 28th January, 1950. As of August 2021, the Supreme Court consists 34 judges (CJ). Justice NV Ramana is the CJl from 24th April, 2021. He would be the CJI till 26th August, 2022.
