Both the statements are correct. The Assam Province was a province of British India, created in 1911 by the partition of the Eastern Bengal and Assam Provinces. In 1874, the Assam region was separated from the Bengal Presidency, Sylhet was added to it and its status was upgraded to a Chief Commissioner's Province, also known as the 'North-East Frontier' non-regulation province. The capital was at Shillong.
