The Ghadar Party, formed in the USA, was determined to start a revolt in India. The party chose Punjab province to begin its armed revolt. ‘Ghadar’ is an Urdu/Punjabi word derived from Arabic, whichmeans ‘revolt’ or ‘rebellion’. The founding president of Ghadar Partywas Sohan Singh Bhakna and Lala Hardayal was its co-founder. Themembers were mostly immigrants settled in the U.S.A. and Canada.
