Coronaviruses belong to a family of viruses called Coronaviridae and the order Nidovirales . It gets its name from its crown-like shape. They are found in animals and birds. They are Zoonotic in nature. Some types of coronavirus are dangerous for humans and result in severe diseases such as respiratory syndromes (MERS – Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and SARS – Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). A new strain of the coronavirus that has not been identified previously is called a novel coronavirus (nCov). Coronavirus disease 2019 is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Coronavirinae can be further subdivided into alpha, beta, gamma, and delta coronaviruses. It is an RNA virus with ribonucleic acid (RNA) as its genetic material that means the virus blends with its host’s DNA and can mutate rapidly. Hence, Statement 1 is correct. RNA viruses are single-stranded. Hence, Statement 2 is correct. The RNA mutation rate is higher than the DNA. RNA replication takes place in the cytoplasm . Hence, Statement 3 is correct. RNA viruses are unstable .
