Consumer protection is making consumers aware of their rights and responsibilities and educating them on how they can seek redressal against unfair trade practices. The following points highlight the importance of consumer protection from the point of view of consumers:
(i) Ignorance of consumers: As consumers are generally ignorant about the, rights and various forms of relief available to them, it is important to make them aware of their rights and responsibilities.
(ii) Exploitation of consumers: Consumers often face exploitation in the form of unfair trade practices, such as adulteration, black marketing and hoarding. Therefore, it is necessary to protect them from such malpractices.
(iii) Unorganised consumers: In order to protect the interests of consumers, consumer organisations must be established. These organisations will the help them to raise a unified voice against any malpractice.
