If the density of methanol is 0.793 k g L – 1 , what is its volume needed for making 2.5 L of its 0.25 M solution?
Solution:
Moles of methanol present in 2.5 L of 0.25 M solution
Molarity =
⇒ 0.25 =
∴ Moles ofC H 3 O H = 2.5 × 0.25 = 0.625
∴ Mass ofC H 3 O H = 0.625 × 32 = 20 g
[∴ Molecular mass ofC H 3 O H = 12 + 1 × 3 + 16 + 1 = 32]
∴ 0.793 ×10 3 g of C H 3 O H is present in 1000 mL
∴ 20 g ofC H 3 O H is present in =
× 20 = 25.2 mL
Molarity =
∴ Moles of
∴ Mass of
[∴ Molecular mass of
∴ 0.793 ×
∴ 20 g of
