Question : 51
Total: 106
If the 4th, 10th and 16th terms of a G.P. are x, y and z respectively. Prove that x, y, z are in G.P.
Solution:
Let a be the first term and r be the common ratio, then according to question
a4 = ar3 = x ...(i)
a10 = ar9 = y ...(ii)
a16 = ar15 = z ...(iii)
Multiplying (i) and (iii), we get
a2r18 = xz ⇒ (ar9)2 = xz
y2 = xz [using (ii)]
Hence x, y, z are in G.P.
