The Eastern States of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal account for more than 70% of the country's coal reserves. Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are other significant coal producing states in India. The Southern State of Tamil Nadu hosts most of the country's lignite deposits.
