The most abundant gas found in the atmosphere is Nitrogen.
The atmosphere is the blanket of gases which envelops the Earth. It protects life on earth from harmful radiation from the Sun and helps in keeping the planet's heat from escaping back into space.
Nitrogen and oxygen primarily account for 99 per cent of the gases in the dry air, along with argon, carbon dioxide, helium, neon, and other gases which are present only in minute portions.
