It was the 42nd Amendment Act through which the Preamble was amended.
It was enacted during the time of Indian National Congress headed by Indira Gandhi.
It is also known as ‘Mini-Constitution because of the large number of amendments that have been brought to the Indian Constitution.
Changes through the 42ndAmendment Act 1976:
Socialist, Secular, and Integrity added to the Preamble.
Four new DPSPs were added to the existing list of DPSPs.
Curtailed the judicial review power of the high courts.
Made President bound to the advice of the cabinet
10 Fundamental Duties added for the citizens.
Transferred five subjects from the state list to the concurrent list which are Education, Forests, Weights & Measures, Protection of Wild Animals and Birds, Administration of Justice.
44thAmendment Act 1978:
The 44th Amendment Act of 1978 reversed the provision made by the 42ndamendment act that allowed the government to amend the constitution on its wish by Article 368.
Replaced the term ‘internal disturbance’ by ‘armed rebellion’ in respect of national emergency.
Restored some of the powers of the Supreme Court and high courts.
Deleted the right to property from the list of Fundamental Rights and made it only a legal right
