Heterotrophs are an organism that cannot manufacture their own food and depend upon other sources for their food
Heterotrophs are secondary and tertiary consumers in the food chain
There are two types of heterotroph.
Photoheterotrophs : It is an organism that uses light for energy and to carry out the cellular process.
Chemoheterotrophs: They obtain their energy from ingesting preformed organic energy sources such as lipids, carbohydrates and proteins which have been synthesized by other organisms.
Heterotrophs that eat plants to obtain their nutrition are called herbivores . Examples of herbivores include cows, sheep, deer etc.
Heterotroph depends upon the meat and flesh of the other animals are called carnivores . They are also known as meat-eater. Examples of carnivores are lion, tiger, vulture etc.
