Hong Kong and Singapore have been given First and Second spots respectively in the Global Economic Freedom Index 2020.
India has been ranked 105th on the Global Economic Freedom Index 2020, falling 26 spots from 79th position in last year’s rankings.
However, one bright spot is the fact that India has ranked higher than China, which is positioned 124th in the latest global economic freedom index.
Some of the other countries that make up the top 10 are New Zealand, Switzerland, the US, Australia, Mauritius, Georgia, Canada, and Ireland.
The ten lowest-rated countries are the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Republic of Congo, Algeria, Iran, Angola ,Libya, Sudan, and, lastly, Venezuela.
The Economic Freedom of the World: 2020 Annual Report prepared by Canada’s Fraser Institute has been released in India in conjunction with New Delhi-based think tank Centre For Civil Society.
The first Economic Freedom of the World Report was published in 1996
This is the 24th edition of Economic Freedom of the World and this year’s publication ranks 162 countries and territories for 2018 , the most recent year for which data are available.
