A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is also known as the "Missile Man of India".
In 1969, he joined ISRO where he was the project head of India's first satellite launch vehicle " Satellite Launch Vehicle- III".
In the 1970s he also directed two projects which developed the ballistic missiles from the technology of the SLV program.
A.P.J. Kalam served as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and he served as the Chief Project Co-ordinator of the Pokhran-II nucleartests.
He has received Bharat Ratna and played a major role in the testing of nuclear weapons in 1998 during the Vajpayee government.
He also served as the 11th President of India from the year 2002 to 2007
