Action of an enzyme can be altered by a number of factors like temperature, pH, presence of activators and coenzymes and presence of inhibitors and poisons. Inhibitors or poisons interact with the active functional groups on the enzyme surface and often reduce or completely destroy the catalytic activity of the enzymes.
