The National Green Tribunal has been established on
18.10.2010
under the
National Green Tribunal Act 2010
.
This body was made for expeditious disposal of cases that relate to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources.
India became the third country in the world to set up such a dedicated environmental tribunal in the country.
It is mandatory for this tribunal to make the disposal of applications or appeals finally within 6 months of the filing of the applications.
New Delhi is the Principal Place of Sitting of the Tribunal.
The NGT comprises of the Chairperson, the
Judicial Members, and Expert Members
. They are not eligible for re-appointment.
