India has the world's highest helipad at Saltoro ridge on the Western periphery of the Siachen Glacier at a height of 6400 metres (21,000 ft) above mean sea level.
India constructed it after it occupied Siachen in 1984 under Operation Meghdoot.
Mi-17 helicopters of Russian origin, India’s Indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), Cheetahs and their upgraded variant, Cheetahs, can land on the helipad.
