"Malgudi Days" published in 1943 is a of short story collection by RK Narayan which includes 32 stories, all set in the fictional town of Malgudi, located in South India during The British rule and first introduced in his work "Swami and Friends."

Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami (10 October 1906 – 13 May 2001) commonly known as RK Narayan, was a leading author of early Indian English literature along with Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao.
"Swami and Friends", "The Bachelor of Arts" and "The English Teacher" are a semi-autobiographical trilogy.
His 1958 novel "The Guide" won him Sahitya Academy Award in 1960 and was adapted as a film (winning a Filmfare Award for Best Film) and has also been hailed for his works "The Financial Expert" and "Broadway" all based set in Malgudi.
A few of the stories in Malgudi Days were included in an iconic television series on Doordarshan in 1986.
In a career spanning form more than six decades he received many awards and honours including the AC Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan, the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, the highest honour of the Academy and was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha for 1986-1982.
