(C) Sikkim is the first state of India which is dependent on organic farming. In January 2016, Sikkim state was officially announced as the country’s first fully organic state. The Sikkim Organic Mission was launched in 2010 with the aim to become fully chemical-free by December 2015. Organic cultivation is free of chemical pesticides and chemical fertilisers as it tries to strike a harmonious balance with a complex series of ecosystems.
