Karewas are the thick deposits of glacial clay and other materials embedded with moraines. The Kashmir Himalayas are also famous for Karewa formations, which are useful for the cultivation of Zafran, a local variety of saffron. 'Duns' are longitudinal valleys created when the Eurasian plate and the Indian plate collided as a result of folding. 'Bhabar' is the gently-sloping coarse alluvial zone below the Sivalik Hills where streams disappear into permeable sediments. 'Duars' are the alluvial floodplains in eastern-northeastern India that lie South of the outer foothills of the Himalayas and North of the Brahmaputra river basin.
