The height of Tehri dam is 260.5m. It is the tallest dam in India. It is located across the Bhagirathi River near Tehri in Uttarakhand. It is a multi-purpose rock and earth-fill embankment dam. It was commissioned in the year 2006. The dam creates a reservoir of 4.0 cubic kilometres with a surface area of 52 km2. The installed hydrocapacity is 1000MW along with an additional 1000MW of pumped storage hydroelectricity.
