India has a large road network of 4.69-millionkilometer. Division of the Indian roads into five classes as- Expressways, National Highways, State Highways, MDR & other District Roads & Village roads was proposed by IRC 1934. Indian Roads Congress (IRC) set up by Government of India in consultation with State Governments in December 1934.
