Verbal means ‘relating to or in the form of words’. Therefore, a verbal code is a set of rules about the use of words in the creation of messages. Words can be either spoken or written. Verbal codes, therefore, include both oral and written language. Communication is two-way, so, it cannot be intrapersonal (communicator's internal use of language or thought). It is between persons, i.e., interpersonal. Communication has two components: verbal language and non-verbal paralanguage. Language uses the letters or symbols of the alphabet to make words but it creates meaningful sentences rather than symbolic code.
