Agartala (capital of Tripura) is the only State capital of North-East India connected by the Indian Railways. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), which is building rail infrastructure in the north-east region, has targeted to connect all its eight state capitals by 2020. According to the NFR, Mizoram’s capital Aizawl and Manipur’s capital Imphal would be connected by railway network by 2018 and 2019, respectively. The capitals of the remaining states would be linked by 2020.
