The Government of India Act, 1935 and the Indian Independence Act, 1947 stand repealed by virtue of Article 395 of the Constitution of India. India's first Preventive Detention Act came into effect in 1950. It was allowed to lapse after some years. In 1969 came the ‘Maintenance of Internal Security Act’, popularly known as the MISA. It was framed along the contours of the Preventive Detention Act, 1950. Following the replacement of the Federal Court with the Supreme Court of India in January 1950, the Abolition of Privy Council Jurisdiction Act, 1949 came into effect, ending the right of appeal to the Privy Council.
