Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is a flagship program of the Govt. of India implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development with effect from 02.02.2006.
The objective of the program is to provide for the enhancement of livelihood security of the rural households by ensuring a legal right for at least 100days of unskilled wage employment to willing adult members.
It was initially implemented in the 200 most backward districts of the country and later extended to the whole of the country.
Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme is fully financed through the National Employment Guarantee Fund.
