The 42nd Amendment Act 1976 added a new part in the Constitution i.e. Part IVA and incorporated the fundamental duties by inserting a new Article51A below Article 51.
The objective of the Fundamental Duties is to place before the country a code of conduct, which the citizens are expected to follow.
The fundamental duties were taken from the erstwhile USSR.
Abide by the Constitution and respect National Flag and National Anthem.
Follow ideals of the freedom struggle
Protect sovereignty and integrity of India
Defend the country and render national. services when called upon
Spirit of a common brotherhood
Preserve composite culture
Preserve the natural environment.
Develop a scientific temper.
Safeguard public property
Strive for excellence.
Duty for all parents/guardians to send their childrenin the age group of 6-14 years to school
